Coho Salmon and Trout Fishing in Alaska: Group Trip to Bearclaw Lodge

We offer you the opportunity to join a trip to one of the most wonderful areas of Alaska to enjoy exciting and varied fishing. Bearclaw Lodge is located on the shores of Lake Aleknagik, also in the heart of Bristol Bay, one of the most productive salmon areas in the world. The targets will be coho salmon, rainbow trout, grayling on dry fly, and char.

August is a time of abundant and varied fishing in Bristol Bay. The dates are optimal for coho salmon fishing. These acrobatic fighters will delight both spinning and fly anglers with spectacular fights. One of the best rivers in the area for coho fishing, the Wood River, is just a 20-minute boat ride from the lodge.

However, it should be noted that this area of Bristol Bay offers the best dry fly fishing in Alaska. July and August are prime time for rainbow trout and grayling on dry fly, even with mouse imitations on the surface. To round off the fishing, we can enjoy fishing these species as well as Dolly Varden char with streamer, nymph, or egg imitations.

One of the special elements of Bearclaw Lodge’s fishing program is the possibility of hiking to numerous surrounding streams. For the more adventurous anglers, excursions with long hikes of up to 8 kilometers can be made to reach some streams that offer excellent fishing, but there are also many productive places that can be reached in less than half an hour walking from the lodge. Anglers will also have kayaks at their disposal, which they can take at any time after dinner to explore the surroundings.

Anglers stay in double rooms. The bathrooms are shared and have a toilet and hot shower. The program offered includes 4 days of fishing for salmon, trout, grayling, and char on boat or foot trips from the lodge and 1 day of coho salmon fishing on a plane trip to the Nushagak River, which is a 20-minute flight from the lodge.

To get to Bearclaw Lodge, you first fly to Anchorage and then to Dillingham on commercial flights. In Dillingham, you will be picked up and taken to the lodge. Each day breakfast is at 8:00 AM, and fishing starts at 8:30 AM. A cold lunch is eaten on the river, and you return at 5:30 PM. Dinner is at 6:30 PM.
