Chinook Salmon Fishing in Alaska: A Programmed Trip to the Togiak River Lodge

The Togiak River Lodge is located on the banks of the Togiak River, six kilometers upstream from its mouth in a remote area of Bristol Bay. Being the only lodge on the entire river allows it to offer its guests exclusive fishing in its wonderful waters.

The main target would be Chinook salmon, the king of salmon. Mid-July is prime time for fishing these salmon in the Togiak, but anglers will also enjoy incredible fishing for sockeye, chum, pink salmon, rainbow trout, and Dolly Varden char.

The Togiak is a medium-sized river by Alaskan standards, with ideal waters for fly fishing with a two-handed rod or spinning. It offers one of the most stable Chinook salmon runs in all of Alaska. Spey rod anglers will find easily wadeable pools with perfect currents for fly fishing. In contrast to what they would find at other lodges, here they will have expert guides in Chinook fly fishing, as well as mastering other techniques perfectly. In fact, due to its size and morphology, the Togiak is also very suitable for spoon fishing. The guides are accustomed to facilitating each technique by marking different areas of the river for each one.

The lodge is the only permanent lodge on the entire river. The main lodge building consists of a large dining room with a large kitchen and rest area, a shop, a wader drying room, and a laundry. Anglers stay in double cabins, each with its own private bathroom and porch overlooking the river.

For species conservation reasons, Chinook salmon fishing is exclusively catch and release. However, for anglers who want to take salmon home, guests are allowed to catch and keep up to 10 kilos of sockeye salmon per angler. If desired, they can even have the sockeye salmon they catch smoked right there at the lodge. The lodge staff will be happy to prepare and vacuum pack it for the trip.

To get to the Togiak RIver, anglers fly commercially to Anchorage. From there, guests will take a charter flight directly to the village of Togiak, where they will meet their guides and be transferred by boat to the lodge (15 mins). Guests arrive in the morning on the first day and go fishing right after breakfast and preparation. Then each day, they go fishing after breakfast at 7:00 AM, returning in time for appetizers at 6:00 PM.

NOTE: All prices are subject to availability. They may vary without notice due to exchange rate fluctuations or changes in costs and conditions of service providers. In case of cancellation, a service fee of €150 per person will be applied in addition to any costs associated with the reservation.
