Esteros del Isoro, Argentina
The golden dorado or “River Tiger” as it is commonly called in Argentina, has gone from being an Argentinian myth to becoming a highly valued fresh water sport fish. With the scientific name “Salminus Maxillosus”, the golden dorado is one of the most aggessive, combative and exciting fresh water fish you can catch on a fly or lure. Its explosive fights with aerial acrobatics guarantee adrenalin charged encounters for even the most experienced of fishermen. Fly fishing for dorados with floating lines in the clear waters of Esteros del Isoro is a unique experience that any adventurous fly fisherman should try at least once during his/her life.
The dorado also found in big muddy watered rivers like the Parana, is so much more exciting to catch on a fly in a place like Esteros. Often you can see the fish bite. Average sizes run from around 3 lbs to 7 or lbs with many larger fish present, sometimes topping the 20 lb mark. In the wetlands of Esteros del Isoro, you’ll find a unimaginable diversity of flora and fauna to round out a grand sport fishing experience. Highly experienced professional guides with comfortable aluminum boats powered by 40 hp Yamaha outboards will assure that each fishermen gets the most out of every outing.
The Esteros del Isoro are located in the north eastern part of Argentina in the province of Corrientes very close to the town of Goya. Guests are accommodated in a wonderful 445 m2 lodge constructed with natural wood logs. During their stay they will enjoy delicious Argentinian meals including excelent local beef, lamb, chicken and fish as well as garden fresh vegetables and home made bread, all accompanied by fabulous domestic wines..
The lodge is located within the boundaries of the Isoro Natural Reserve at a very short distance from the areas guests fish. All fishing is strictly catch and release. Other sport fish species present include: piranhas, surubíes, tarariras, chafalotes, virreinas and more.
Six to eight weight single hand rods with floating lines and medium sink lines designed for tropical waters.
Salt wate type streamers imitating fish in sizes from 6 to 8 inches with very strong and very sharp hooks, sizes 1 or 2. A variety of colors can be effective including white, orange, brown, black and purple.
Guests are accommodated in an excelent recently built 445 m2 lodge made out of natural wood logs. de reciente construcción fabricado de troncos de madera natural. The lodge can accommodate up to 8 guests in 4 large air conditioned double rooms with on suite bathrooms. Meals are served a spacious 80 m2 dining room and lounge area with a bar.
the lodge is located very close to Goya in north eastern Argentina in the province of Corrientes. to get there guests may fly into Corrientes and take a private van to the lodge or they can take a first class overnight bus with sleeper full reclining chairs from Buenos Aires.
The stay at the lodge was perfect. Mario, splendid and his team was very friendly and always attent to whatever they could do to make our stay more enjoyable. The food prepared by María Luisa, was a ten. The trip there was somewhat long… regarding the fishing, we enjoyed it very much even though we had one blank day despite the efforts of Flavio, our guide. In summary, a very enjoyable experience.
