Costa Rica – Sailfish in Quepos
The coast off of Quepos is sheltered from the northerly winter winds that are common in this area of the Pacific favoring the fishing throughout the season. The best fishing for sailfish coincides with these winter months, big schools often arriving around October and usually peaking between December and April. During these months anywhere between six to ten sailfish caught and released by a boat in a day is common. July through December generally brings the best marlin fishing, usually peaking in October, though they are present year round. They include incredible black and blue marlin that can run over 500 pounds as well as the smaller more numerous striped marlin. The best time to catch the monster black and blue marlin as well as big dorados or giant yellow fin tuna is between May and November. The offering is rounded out with fantastic inshore fishing for rooster fish, snook, snapper and jacks.
Guests will fish from one of several custom made fishing boats from a 28 to a 33 foot Sport fish with cabins with on board bathrooms. All of the boats are equipped with marine radios, gps’, ultrasonic fishfinders, tower outriggers, fighting chairs, live wells and tuna tubes. Guests are usually lodged at the renowned Hotel Parador located on spectacular site overlooking the sea, in Manuel Antonio an area of incredible natural beauty only a few kilometers away from Quepos. In addition to being a fantastic sport fishing destination, Quepos is also a great vacation spot with beautiful beaches, lively night life, great bars and restaurants, a casino and lots of interesting shopping. During their stay guests will not want to miss exploring the surrounding national park and observing its incredible flora and fauna.
Charters include all of the conventional equipment necessary for the outings. If you would like to fly fish, we receommend bringing a 9 foot 15 or 16 weight rod.
Guests generally fly into San Jose International airport and rent a vehicle for the scenic drive to the coast. Quepos is 175 km to the south if San José or about a 3 hour drive.

Fishermen also have the option of staying at the Hotel Kamuk Best Western a moderatley priced hotel located just 500 meters from the marina.
