Providence Atoll, Seychelles Islands
The two islands are completely surrounded by extensive flats which also run uninterrupted over the 40 kilometer distance between them. For the most part, white sand and turtle grass covered areas of the flats provide easy wading and continuous opportunities to sight fish for all of the species mentioned and more. To add to the incredible offering, close to shore at most of the spots the guides will anchor the bottom drops away quickly into blue water where anglers will target a host of other deep water quarry. Species available include Yellow fin and Dogtooth Tuna, Wahoo, Sailfish, Giant Trevally, Barracuda, Sailfish and even Marlin from time to time.
An experienced team of four guides will show anglers all the ins and outs of the fishery, the hot spots, appropriate equipment, flies and techniques for each species and situation. Guides use 4 Panga style boats to take the fishermen out and back from the mothership where they will be lodged and to move them around to the best spots depending on their preferences and what is happening at a particular moment. Every night the captain and guides will plan the following days schedule and the distribution of the anglers throughout the day. Depending on the tides, usually anglers will get up early and head out with the guides to hit the flats on the first tide, staying out for a full day of fishing. Depending on the action they can choose a moment to pause for a pack lunch during the day, though there is also the option to return to the ship if planned ahead.
During their stay at the Atoll anglers are lodged on the 150 foot mothership Maya’s Dugong. The ship can accommodate up to 14 guests in 7 double cabins. A spacious dining room and lounge area and a numerous public areas including a large leisure deck area offer plenty of space to lounge and relax after a hard day of fishing.
ast action 9 or 10 wieght rods are recommended for bonefish and other smaller quary to be found on the flats. Fast action 12 weight rods are recommended for GTs and Bumphead Parrotfish. Reels should be heavy duty salt water reels loaded with floating tropical salt water lines and 300 meters of backing. Guests will be provided with a detailed comprehensive gear list before their trip.
The majority of guests fly into Mahe International Airport from Dubai. Additionally there are usually also scheduled direct flights to Mahe from Paris, London, Frankfurt or Dusseldorf in Europe. Guests should arrive at least the day before their scheduled arrival in Farquhar. The next morning you guests take the hour and 45 minute charter flight from Mahé to Farquhar. Guests will embark on their mothership the Maya Dugong at Farquhar and will sail to Providence.
Location: The Providence Atoll is located in the Indian Ocean just shy of 700 kilometers to the southwest of Mahe, the capital of the Seychelles, a 3 hour sail to the north of Farquhar.
